Overview
Universal Galactic Credits, or UGC, are the standard currency used across the galaxy. Most people just call them credits. The idea for the UGC came from The Merchants Guild, who created it as a single, universal exchange currency that bridges the gap between every major galactic economy and trade system. It was built to simplify trade, stabilize markets, and eliminate the constant struggle between local currencies and conversion systems.
Because of its security, consistency, and authority, the UGC quickly spread through every region of the Star Wilds, becoming the foundation of galactic commerce and a symbol of shared prosperity between worlds.
History
When the UGC was first introduced, it was used mainly in Guild-controlled markets and trade routes. As its use expanded, it became clear that a universal currency was essential to maintain large-scale economic growth and cooperation.
In the year 5005 , following years of negotiation between major empires, the Intergalactic Trade Accord was signed – a treaty that formally unified all major governments under one economic standard. The agreement required all factions, worlds, and colonies to adopt the UGC as their primary currency and established shared trade regulations. With the signing of the Accord, the UGC became the official galactic standard, replacing every other form of currency within a single generation.
Current Use
Today, the UGC is the undisputed standard. It functions as the single recognized and enforced currency throughout the galaxy. Every government, corporation, and private entity operates through the UGC system, with all transactions registered and secured through the Galactic Exchange Network – a vast financial infrastructure maintained by The Guild.
All credits exist digitally and can be transferred instantly pier to pier using an Imprint interface. However, physical transactions are handled using Credit Chips – small, encrypted storage devices that can securely hold and transfer UGC physically.
Local or independent currencies occasionally emerge in fringe territories or under isolationist regimes, but none have ever managed to challenge the dominance of the UGC. Its influence and stability inevitably outlast and absorb all competitors, keeping it firmly established as the backbone of the galactic economy.
